Raise a Tote to Glio Leo with FIT
We are so excited to announce the “Raise a Tote to GlioLeo!” Shelby Kennedy’s GlioLeo GBM Tote Bag Student Design Contest with the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Ever since high school, Shel was determined to attend FIT. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be involved in fashion, although, unlike most young girls, she wanted to be involved in product development—not designing. Few people are able to make their dreams come true, but few people are like Shel. When she was accepted, it was one of the happiest days of her life. Shel spent four years at FIT in their Fashion Merchandizing Management program. She made friends at FIT that became like family. Driven, passionate, and compassionate women that were with Shel from the day she was diagnosed until the very end.
While at FIT, Shel was a co-manager of the Style Shop; interned at Seventeen Magazine, Coach, Dorothy Perkins, and the Doneger Group; and traveled extensively, both for work and for fun. Shel graduated in 2011 and began working for Macy’s as a product assistant; Shel would eventually become a product manager, despite having had to take time off for treatment. No matter the circumstances, Shel excelled in her field, and she attributed much of her success to her time at FIT.
In partnership with FIT, GlioLeo is sponsoring a design contest that is open to all AAS and BFA Footwear and Accessories Design students enrolled in the Spring 2023 semester. Students will be asked to design a stylish and practical tote bag for people with disabilities, particularly those who have diminished function and strength in their hands and fingers. The winner will be awarded $5,000 and their design may be produced by GlioLeo for sale, the proceeds of which will go towards helping those diagnosed with glioblastoma and their families, and raising awareness of and funding for glioblastoma treatment and research.
